Today Dad and I attended Carolina’s second baseball game in the new Carolina Stadium. What an incredible ballpark! The reality of not being able to attend anymore games with Dad at Sarge Fry Field sank in while I was there; but the thought of now being able to go with Dad in this new state of the art facility is exciting. I’m glad he asked me to go with him today. What a great father and son outing!
Yesterday Dad celebrated his 65th Birthday. To celebrate his special day he and Mom went to the inaugural baseball game at Carolina Stadium. Later that evening we threw a birthday party for him at Jennifer’s house. The Lord truly blessed me with a wonderful and loving father. I pray I have him for many more years to come!
This was a great weekend! Friday night we went to Carolina Wings for some wings and raw fries; Saturday we went fishing in the morning, flew the radio plane in the afternoon and that evening we joined the O’Cains, Mom and Dad for birthday party for Dad. Dad turned 65 on Saturday. Today we went to Church at Lexington Baptist and heard another great sermon by Pastor Mike. Today he preached the meaning of the 8th Commandment “Thou Shall Not Steal.” What a great series of sermons. And this afternoon Dad and I went together to the Carolina’s second baseball game in the brand new Carolina Stadium. This was a great weekend with family…I wish every weekend could be just like this one.
Boy, did I need a Friday or what. What a crazy week at work. The phone calls and request were at an all-time strangeness this week. It seems everybody that I talked with had some issue that needed me to resolve. I guess that’s why I get paid the big bucks. Ha! Anyway, as soon as the clock struck six I was out of the house and across the street with our new radio controlled airplane. Tuck and Jordan were so excited to see it fly; so was I. Now the first, second and third attempts were not pretty. But on the fourth attempt we set sail into the air. It was beautiful watching the little plane fly across the field and over my neighbor’s house. It was even funnier watching the kids run under it like a bunch of loose dogs in the park. The flight however didn’t last long. The little red and white plane finally gave out of power and crashed into the field. Fortunately, it only suffered a few scraps and dents. Tomorrow we will attempt another flight…after we catch some fish down at the SummerLake.
Well, I’m back home after a two day trip to Raleigh for work; I always hate being away from my family. Tonight was great, Janie cooked homemade french onion soup (without the high carb crouton) and a wonderful Caesar salad; light but tasty. After supper Tuck and I assembled the radio controlled airplane I bought in Fayetteville today during my long trip home. I found a great little hobby shop off I-95 at Exit 49. The owner had a shop full of trains, planes, tanks, helicopters and other radio operated machines. It was like a toy store for grown men. Of course, Tuck would have gone nuts in there! Since I hadn’t spent my Christmas and Birthday money, I decided to use a little on a starter plane. I thought it would be a good way for Tuck and me to practice before we move up to the slick Corsair. We plan to fly it this weekend on the athletic field in our neighborhood after we catch some big fish down at the Summerlake. Lord, thanks for getting me back home…I’m lovin’ it!
Well, it’s hard to believe but today is my 41st birthday. Yes, I am now closer to fifty than to 30. Unbelievable! But you know what? I wouldn’t go back for anything. Today I am blessed with a beautiful wife, two courgeous children, two loving parents, and lots of close friends and family. The Lord has truly blessed me through the years. I sincerely look forward to the next 41 years and all the wonderful events that will occur during that time. Since I had to be in Raleigh today we celebrated my birthday last night at home. I had a wonderful steak with all the fixings. Janie and the children gave me all the fresh water fishing gear I will need for our family fishing outings down at the Summer Lake. My favorite gift of the night was this sweet kiss from Janie. Of course, Tuck wanted a little Mommy love too!
